Bird & Bird LLP, London Working at Bird & Bird LLP for 12 months allowed me to develop a great understanding of the operations of an international law firm. Doing various sorts of tasks, both small and big, I maintained my focus and perseverance throughout, using every opportunity to learn. “Mark has always been exceptionally polite and courteous with a helpful attitude and an adaptable “can-do” approach to work. “ (Head of BD) I worked closely with the Marketing Communications, Client Relationships and Business Development teams. In the latter team I was asked at a short notice to fill the role of a leaving Business Development Executive which involved supporting Employment and Real Estate practice groups. “This coal-face role [Business Development of Employment and Real Estate groups] was quite far removed from Mark’s remit up until that point and presented a considerable step-change in the level of responsibility and exposure. However, Mark rolled up his sleeves, listened, worked exceptionally hard and ultimately won praise from his group heads.” (Head of BD) More specifically, my one-year internship enabled me to get a hands-on experience in and contribute greatly to the following marketing areas: • PR (doing PR research into competitor legal providers; preparing and submitting ranking applications, e.g. Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners); • Social media (planning and writing social media content); • Events (identifying prospective clients, creating and printing materials, advising lawyers on follow-up communications, event analysis); • CRM (organising invitee lists, sending invitations, roll-out of a new CRM system); • Pitching (gathering and managing input from lawyer teams for pitches of all scales); • Administrative (e.g. recording invoices, updating spreadsheets and databases). “Mark worked within a challenging environment. This work experience involved me assisting the regional manager for the Russian region in establishing Bournemouth University's presence on Russian social media. This, in turn, involved planning, implementing and measuring digital activities on VKontakte network. This work experience has enabled me to develop: - Knowledge in planning and implementing Content Marketing (that supports overall SEO effort) strategies - Experience in working with analytical software and gaining insights from raw data - Skills in preparing weekly and monthly reports

At this role I was responsible for all internal and external communications that pass through the only marketing community at Bournemouth University. This role involved communications planning on both strategic and tactical levels and implementation of various promotional activities and events on campus. In Spring 2015 the society won two awards - The Most Improved Society of the Year and the 5-Star Society
